Background

As concerns about climate change, health, and energy consumption grow, the way we manage the indoor climate in buildings has never been more critical. Traditional manual operation barely achieves optimal indoor health, comfort, and energy efficiency, while automated controls prioritize system performance over engagement and preferences of building users.

The NEXT-ICM project combines emerging technologies of IoT, Digital Twin, and AI to offer a sustainable, intelligent, occupant-centric solution for the NEXT generation of Indoor Climate Management.

Objectives

The NEXT-ICM project aims to address several key research gaps and technical challenges in indoor climate management:

  • Predictive modeling of hybrid ventilation
  • Adaptive, occupant-centric indoor climate management framework
  • AI-powered building–user interaction system
